How Do You Know If Your Kundalini Energy is Awakened?

Are you wondering whether your Kundalini energy is awakened or want to know the signs of an activated Kundalini? Let’s explore it together.

Signs, symptoms & manifestations of Kundalini awakenings & activations differ from person to person but there are some common similarities across Kundalini awakening journeys.

The awakening of Kundalini energy can be an abrupt & energetically intense experience & it can be a more gradual opening that feels natural. Not one is better than the other. And just because you haven’t had a powerful energy surge up your spine does not mean your Kundalini is not stimulated & activated.

To be honest, the activation of Kundalini energy within us will not immediately make us a complete different person. In many cases, it is subtle yet the profound shifts happen in the subtleties.

It’s also important to note the activation of Kundalini energy is not the same as a full Kundalini awakening. Activation normally happens first, & refers to the dormant state of Kundalini energy being switched into an activate state & the energy begins to move into the energy meridians. Full awakening usually refers to when the energy has entered into the Central Channel (the Sushumna) & has made its way to higher brain centers, specifically into the Third Eye.

To know if your Kundalini energy is activated, here are 5 signs of an activated Kundalini you can look out for:

1) Sensations of Energy Moving Through Your Body

When Kundalini energy is activated & open, there is an increase of prana/ chi moving in the body serving as a vehicle for Kundalini to journey upwards to our higher centers. You may notice odd energy ripples through your body (almost like air bubbles inside of you!), sensations of being hugged by an energy field, tingling, buzzing, or a clear movement of energy up & down your spine & in other parts of your body.

These sensations tend to be distinctively different than what we would normally feel. When you focus your awareness on the energy movement, it also intensifies & may even be accompanied with strong feelings of bliss, peace, love & wholeness.

2) Subtle to Large Spontaneous Movements

Spontaneous movements, also known as kriyas are a hallmark expression of Kundalini energy being activated & beginning her cleansing & purification process. These movements can begin small like subtle twirling & twitching of fingers, hands & legs. And they can also be more vigorous like uncontrollable jerking & shaking. Sometimes, the movements express like a Divine dance & mudras (hand gestures) may spontaneously form.

Kriyas are one of the biggest signs that our Kundalini energy is awakened. Especially when you experience it for the first time, it is both BEAUTIFUL & TERRIFYING (holding those both ands 😉). Beautiful in that we have a visceral embodied experience of the Kundalini spiritual intelligence moving us & helping us recenter, recalibrate & purge the body of density. Terrifying in that our left brain & conscious thinking mind is like “WTF is happening & who is moving me because I’M NOT DOING THAT!” 😱

When spontaneous kriyas manifest, we are asked to Surrender to them so that Kundalini energy can do Her job. The more we Surrender, the more we’ll feel how the energy is working for us.

Now it’s important to note that although kriyas are common to see when Kundalini is awakened, JUST BECAUSE your body isn’t moving DOESN’T MEAN your Kundalini energy is not activated. I’ve personally witnessed many clients whose Kundalini energy naturally opened without the immediate expressions of kriyas.

Again – Kundalini is WISE & INTELLIGENT & it knows when movement is necessary & also when the best thing for someone’s journey in a moment may be complete stillness.

3) Inexplicable Emotional Highs & Lows

Another common sign your Kundalini energy is activated & moving is when you feel like you’ve hopped onto a whole rollercoaster of EXTREME emotions. These emotions may be extreme happiness, joy, hope, ecstasy & bliss as we get glimpses of what it’s like to be reunited with Pure Beingness. AND also in the beginning phases of the Kundalini process, these emotions may be extreme sadness, grief, anger, shame & fear as Kundalini energy brings to the surface emotions that we’ve repressed through traumas in our lives.

This can look like waking up one morning, feeling like ABSOLUTE POOP 💩 & literally having no reason for being so. And also, it can look like sitting at work in your cubicle & suddenly having this profound feeling of unconditional LOVE for everyone around you 💗

When we witness these inexplicable highs & lows in our emotions, it’s a telltale sign that our Kundalini energy may be active. To facilitate Kundalini’s work when we find ourselves in this rollercoaster of emotions, we must Surrender to the emotional waves & let go of the need to attach meaning.

We don’t need to know why we’re suddenly so ecstatic & happy.

We don’t need to know why there’s suddenly a big pang of fear & anxiousness in our heart.

We don’t need to know why there’s suddenly grief that we haven’t felt in ages.

All we’re asked to do is to allow the feelings to be felt & hold safe & loving space for ourselves.

4) Vivid Spiritual Visions & Downloads

Because Kundalini’s goal is to bring us back to cosmic consciousness, as Kundalini energy is activated within us, our channel to the Divine spiritual realms become fortified. This means that you could suddenly start receiving A LOT of spiritual visions of the past, present & future, downloads for the next steps of your purpose, epiphanies on what has been holding you back, creative ideas & more! You might also feel the presence of your Spiritual Team stronger, coming in with reassurances & support.

With an opened channel, you may also notice yourself wanting to meditate more often, spend time in Nature & go deeper into spiritual studies.

5) An Inner Knowing that Your Kundalini Is Activated

And finally, you may just have this recurring nudge that your Kundalini energy is activated. When our Kundalini energy is active, our body already KNOWS that & it’s the mind that needs the convincing. So if you find yourself constantly asking, “Is my Kundalini energy awakened & activated?” & you can recognize some of the signs mentioned above, chances are- Kundalini energy IS active already inside of you or is very close to being activated.

Trust the inner knowing within you & connect to it with more body-based practices like breathwork, Kundalini Yoga & embodiment & just noticing sensations in your body.

There’s a reason you keep asking yourself this question. It’s time to just receive the answer that’s been there all along.

There’s a lot of fascination & interest these days in experiencing Kundalini activations & becoming a Kundalini activation facilitator. And rightfully so! This form of spiritual healing & energy work is hands down the most life-changing & transformative modality I’ve ever experienced.

For those who are curious about becoming a Kundalini activation facilitator, I want to get REAL & HONEST with you about what this journey entails. Becoming a Kundalini activation facilitator is NOT something you just read some documents on, watch a couple of videos, & then you “know” how to do it.

It is a full life’s devotion to

  1. Your personal healing
  2. Your relationship of Surrender to the Divine Mother
  3. Your development of trauma-informed & comprehensive skills to hold space for others’ transformation

1) Your Personal Healing

Your personal healing is foundational on the path of becoming a Kundalini activation facilitator because this form of energy healing is about being able to hold a frequency, a vortex of life force or a field of consciousness for others to activate & resonate within. When we haven’t done our own personal healing work, we cannot fully inhabit our bodies. Without being in our bodies, it’s impossible to hold a Kundalini frequency of transformation for others.

So I’ve got some good news 🎉 & some neutral news 🙂 for you (Because we’re letting go of the dualistic “good”/ “bad” non-sense here 😉)

The good news is when you are devoted to working with Kundalini & have Kundalini energy awakened inside of you, this Divine spiritual intelligence as an emanation of the Divine Mother is already designed to liberate you & be in SERVICE to your healing. This means your personal healing is already GUIDED & the purification of your mind, body & spirit is orchestrated by an intelligence far greater than you & I.

AKA… the heavy lifting is done for you!

Kundalini energy desires to be shared. It desires for each of us to Remember who we truly are, access unconditional Love within us & expand our consciousness.

She wants us to be liberated & it is her sole purpose as She rises up our central channel to meet with Shiva (Divine Masculine) in our pineal gland to bring us back to inner union.

The neutral news is the process of liberation is FAR from easy, rainbows, butterflies & unicorns 🌈🦋🦄. Devoting to the Kundalini path especially with the commitment of becoming a Kundalini activation facilitator can catalyze a crumbling of your identity, your life as you’ve known it, the relationships around you & have you questioning EVERYTHING.

But that isn’t “bad”. In fact it’s the most beautiful & freeing thing that can happen for us.

It’s through this “deconstruction” in the Kundalini process that our past traumas & emotional wounds can finally be surfaced & given the safe space to heal.

And when we full-heartedly Surrender in this process of shedding, crumbling & healing, we release conditioning & false identities, beliefs & attachments that were never truly US to begin with.

This gives us our FREEDOM, our TRUE SELVES & the NERVOUS SYSTM CAPACITY to share Kundalini energy with others.

2) Your Relationship of Surrender to the Divine Mother

Facilitating Kundalini activation has A LOT more to do with your Surrender than your intellect. As Kundalini activation facilitators, we are continuously humbled by the Truth that it is not us in our human finite self that is allowing for Kundalini activations to occur. But it is the Grace of the Divine Mother which dances through us that makes it happen 🌹

To easily access surrender during a Kundalini activation session & call in the energy for others to heal within, we must practice an ongoing relationship of Surrender within our own lives.

This looks like realizing we are never doing life alone. In fact, we are doing life in partnership with an unconditionally Loving force that truly loves us beyond limits.

Even when challenges happen & poop hits the fan in life 💩, who do we choose to be to ourselves & how do we choose to respond?

The more we practice showering ourselves with loving compassion & softness... which looks like a tender hug & a whisper of “It’s going to be OK. I’ve got you” , the more we open ourselves to the Divine Mother’s Grace.

And the more we practice relinquishing our need to control but trusting that everything is always happening FOR us… the more we also open ourselves to the Divine Mother’s Grace.

There’s no amount of knowledge, learning & information that will suffice for a lack of Surrender.

So fully immersing yourself in a relationship of Surrender to the Divine Mother is essential in becoming a Kundalini activation facilitator.

3) Your Development of Trauma-Informed & Comprehensive Skills

Working with Kundalini energy is no joke & neither is guiding the Kundalini awakening process for someone else. As Kundalini energy’s journey is about cleansing & purification our nervous system, I strongly believe that becoming trauma-informed & understanding how the autonomic nervous system functions is CRITICAL in becoming a Kundalini activation facilitator.

Without understanding trauma, its impact & also how to safely hold space for someone who may be experiencing the unpleasant parts of healing trauma from the body & psyche, we can easily misinterpret a crucial part of someone’s healing journey as “something has gone wrong”.

In the Kundalini process especially when past traumas are triggered & brought to the surface to be resolved, it can be MESSY, UNCOMFORTABLE & honestly, extremely triggering & frightening for someone who doesn’t have a context for what’s happening.

When we or our clients start uncontrollably crying for days & feeling absolutely terrible, it’s tempting to label that as “bad”, “wrong” or “I’ve picked some some dark negative energy” – when in reality, it’s the healthiest & most important part of our nervous system’s recalibration.

For many of us, there’s literally DECADES of stagnant energies & traumas bottled up that FINALLY get the chance to be completed & resolved.

With this said, this is why in the KCA Kundalini Facilitator Training, the whole training is taught through the lens of becoming trauma-informed so that we have an empowering & clear context of how to lead ourselves & our clients through the Kundalini healing process.

I teach you all about how the autonomic nervous system works, how to recognize your own nervous system responses & how to cultivate conditions of safety for others to feel fully supported to move through their traumas.

Resistance Is An Invitation to Surrender

Surrendering begins with becoming aware of who we are to ourselves in resistance.

Let me explain ⬇️

It can be tempting to think that feeling resistance is a barrier to surrender- but what if it’s actually an invitation? 💌

Resistance isn’t bad. In many cases, it’s an absolutely brilliant & sound protection mechanism because letting go & trusting feels like the farthest thing from safety.

When we realize that experiencing resistance is not mutually exclusive to accessing surrender, then the question becomes :

“How can I surrender in this moment of resistance?”

We start by honouring why our resistance is here in the first place. In a society where our humanity is painted as a constant inconvenience, our default is to make valid human responses like resistance wrong. THIS is what keeps us stuck in resistance. Not the resistance itself. 

Resistance comes up when there is a fear/ aversion to surrendering and trusting. And behind that fear is likely a past pain associated with trusting that hasn’t been fully resolved ❤️‍🩹

Maybe you trusted your parents were going to be there to keep you safe…only to witness a heartbreaking separation that left you without a complete family.  

Maybe you trusted life had your back when you dove head over heels into that romantic relationship…only to have your heart broken in the end.

Or maybe you trusted money would find its way to you when you made that investment…only to find yourself in debt and feeling lost and confused.

Or maybe you trusted a friend to have your back during one of the toughest periods of your life…only to realize that they didn’t have your best interest. 

When there is resistance to surrender, oftentimes it’s because we’ve learned from past experiences that it’s not safe to surrender trust.

Which means to access surrender in that moment of resistance looks like offering acceptance & love to the part of us that is afraid, & letting them know it’s OK to be scared ❤️

Practice This When You Feel Resistance to Surrender

  1. Take 3 deep breaths in through your nose, expanding through your stomach, heart & throat. Suspend your breath. Exhale slowly through your nose as you lower your collarbones, heart & stomach.
  2. Connect with the part of you that is in resistance to surrendering & trusting – what does this part of you look like, feel like & sound like?
  3. Presence this part of you by placing your hands over your heart, or any other part of your body where you feel them present
  4. Breathe with them as you say out loud: “You are so welcome here. You are so valid. Thank you for looking out for me. I love you!”
  5. Listen to what this part may want to say to you. Where do they need additional reassurance of love & safety? Give it to them to whatever degree feels accessible to you.

Feel free to adapt & play with the above guidance in whatever way best serves you. When you bring this into the moments of resistance & tension in your life & you keep repeating this practice of honouring YOURSELF in the face of resistance, you’ll notice huge shifts unfolding.

Just because we’re afraid does not mean we can’t surrender at all. But until we let that part of us that is resistant know that it’s OK & VALID to feel the way they’re feeling, surrender is HARD to tap into. 

With even the smallest dash of self-compassion & acceptance, we open up a gateway for surrender to be possible. And in what previously felt like the most impossible place to find surrender, we find it, taste it & gradually make it a new norm for ourselves 💕

Creating a Space to Surrender in a Kundalini Activation Journey

For many people going into a Kundalini activation experience, surrendering is not as easy as hearing “just surrender & going “Oh OK! 🙂

And that’s so understandable. Especially for those who have been forced to be in fight/flight/freeze survival for most of their lives… Surrender literally equates to death in the nervous system. 

THIS is the literal feeling in the body: 😱😱😱

So how do we hold this truth while still supporting people in surrendering in Kundalini activation journeys? This is what we will explore.

As embodied Kundalini activation facilitators, we want to intentionally create cues of safety in our sessions for surrender to happen. This means that we are purposefully creating signals to our participants’ nervous system that it is OK & SAFE for them to let go & surrender.

This is something we explore in great depths inside of the Kundalini Codes Activation (KCA) Facilitator Training

Let’s look at some of these conditions ⬇️

Explaining what the process entails ⚡️

It’s undeniable that the work of Divine Grace can be hard to put into words. And also, there are clear explanations as to why & how the body responds to sound frequencies & energy resonance in a Kundalini activation experience. Spontaneous body movements & emotional expressions can be explained through the lens of energy moving through the nadis, changing brainwave states & the recalibration of the autonomic nervous system which leads to trapped energies being released. I’ve found that by offering a comprehensive overview as to what can potentially happen & what is happening in the body when certain manifestations arise, people feel safer & more at ease to actually surrender.

Creating a community circle in a group session 💖

When we’re in a room with people we don’t know & haven’t spoken to, surrendering can feel difficult. This is why I love facilitating in-person group sessions always in a circle & offering space in the beginning for everyone to share who they are + their journeys & connect with one another. By hearing each others’ voices & feeling each others’ presences, this activates our Ventral Vagal branch of our parasympathetic nervous system. This means that our nervous systems can then relax into safety & be more at ease when it comes to lying down knowing who our neighbours are. This also fortifies our shared group field which allows for a beautiful co-creation among everyone during the session. 

Bringing in embodiment practices that enhance body awareness & safety 💃🏾

When we’re caught up in the mind thinking, not only are we disconnected from the body but we are usually also more activated in a Sympathetic nervous system state (aka fight/ flight / freeze). This is why weaving in embodiment practices like Kundalini Codes Yoga & Embodiment can support people in grounding, dropping their awareness from the head into the heart & shifting more into a relaxed parasympathetic nervous system state – all of which support surrender. For example, I love guiding a short embodiment sequence with grounding, shaking & loving self-touch AND a Kundalini pranyama meditation before asking people to lie down. 

Letting people know they can’t do it wrong ❤️

The thought of potentially “doing it wrong” pulls us out of surrender. Which is why it’s really important to emphasize in the beginning of a session that there’s no way someone can do something wrong / mess up the process. I love explaining how the microcosm ties to macrocosm here. Letting people know that even if they meet with loud thoughts, resistance & a mind wondering what’s for dinner – THAT too is part of the medicine & what they are guided to practice surrendering into. Every single time we feel disconnected during the practice is an opportunity to heal our relationship with ourselves & practice developing greater self compassion in the face of our humanness. In knowing that there’s no way they can mess it up, our particiapnts’ nervous system will access greater safety to let go.
